‘The Following’ panel with Natalie Zea, James Purefoy, Kevin Bacon, director Marcos Siega, Shawn Ashmore, and Annie Parisse. Coming to Fox in January. Just saw the pilot, it’s solid — more on that later.
Update: A bit on the pilot: It’s surprising Fox is letting this serial-killer thriller on air as-is because some of its gore and violence truly pushes the limit of network television. Which is a good thing. On top of that ‘The Following’ is actually scary, which is saying a lot for TV, which though it often aims for frightening (‘American Horror Story’) can sometimes fall short. The script about a serial killer who has the power of a cult army is tight and employs the use of a clever flashback-heavy, non-chronological structure. The performances are what you’d expect from the caliber. My main concern is how procedural this series will be. The concept is engaging and interesting but if it’s just chasing a single one of Purefoy’s minions every week, I could see myself tuning out early.
